DIY Decorations with Kids

Paper Plate Tree

This craft only requires a few, easy-to-find supplies and some inexpensive paint. Let the kids use their imaginations by letting them choose the colours they prefer (a pink tree, why not?) and don't forget to help the little ones with the scissors.

Potatoe Stamped Gift Wrapping

Forget the store-bought wrapping paper this year and instead make custom hand-stamped paper with potatoes and paint. It's an old-school craft project that reminds us of our own childhoods! (This goes without saying, but only adults should handle the knife and cutting the potatoes.)

Candy Cane Reindeer

You likely have all of these supplies at home already: pipe cleaners, glue and felt. Just add candy canes and some googly-eyes and voila—you have new reindeer friends to add to the tree.

Pine Cone Garland

Kids love scavenger hunts, so put their adventurous spirits to good use by having them collect and decorate pine cones. Coat each pine cone with craft paint to give it a snowy look, then tie them together with yarn to create a beautiful, rustic garland for your fireplace mantle or staircase railing.

Popsicle Pals

From elves and reindeers to angels and snowmen, this fun craft project lets kids be as creative as they like. All you need are popsicles and googly eyes; decorate with felt, construction paper and markers to create fun and festive ornaments. Make sure there's an adult around to handle the hot glue gun.

Hot Chocolate Toppers

We had to include a DIY sweet treat–this is for the kids, after all! All you need to make these cute snowmen are marshmallows, pretzel sticks, candy corn and black icing. Top these on a cup of hot chocolate for some festive fun and enjoy sipping on this sweet treat as you decorate.
